About Indie Travel Guides

Indie Travel Guides provide a new approach to guide books: written for beginner travellers they focus on practical, general advice for planning and executing amazing travel experiences.

You can benefit from the experience of hundreds of days of travel and thousands of hours of research. Don’t make the same rookie mistakes everyone else does; find a guide to suit you. Before you splash out on a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide, get a big-picture view of resources and techniques that can help you fully experience foreign cultures and save big bucks.

The books

Each book is available as a PDF “ebook” or an mp3 “audiobook” meaning you have maximum flexibility in how you choose to read it.

  • Read on your computer screen
  • Read on a pocket PC
  • Print out the sections you want; read them offline
  • Listen to them on your daily walk or commute to work
  • Escape the office: listen to them at your desk

We don’t treat you like a criminal: there’s no DRM software to limit how many devices you can copy them to. Furthermore, these formats are industry standards so you can open them with ease even if you have no technical expertise.

The authors

Who is writing this stuff? Full-time travellers, that’s for sure…

Craig Martin is the driving force behind Indie Travel Guides and is currently the main writer. Since February 2006 this Kiwi has been travelling through Europe and Australasia and co-producing the Indie Travel Podcast. He’s interested in new media, spirituality, English literature and, of course, travel. He is the author of Travelling Europe.

Chief Editor Linda Martin has been involved in English teaching and proofreading since leaving Auckland University with a BA in English and Psychology in 2002. She co-produces the Indie Travel Podcast along with Craig and has visited five more countries than he has. Hah!

Jennifer Miller wrote the family chapter and appendix in Travelling Europe. She was raised among forests and islands in Canada and spent much of her childhood in a van traversing North America. True to her nomadic upbringing, she chases her children around the globe on a quest for adventure and living education documenting it at the EdVenture Project.

Jennifer Marlow likes to alternate her time between globetrotting, writing about traveling, and looking forward to the next trip. An enthusiastic collector of all things international, her goal is to visit a country that does not have a McDonald’s franchise. She’s responsible for the solo female travel chapter of Travelling Europe.
